Attendance

Attendance Matters

Every day matters –

At The Fermain Academy, we know that good attendance is fundamental to success. Being in school regularly gives students the opportunity to learn, develop positive relationships, build confidence and make progress towards their future goals.

We also recognise that attendance can be a significant challenge for some of our students. Many join us having experienced disrupted education, anxiety around school, difficulties with behaviour or engagement, SEND needs or other barriers that have affected their ability to attend regularly.

Our approach is therefore not simply about attendance figures. It is about understanding the individual barriers that may be preventing a student from attending and working with them, their family and other professionals to overcome those barriers.

Supporting students to attend –

Our pastoral and SEND teams work closely with students and families to provide the support they need to attend school successfully. This may include individual support, personalised plans, adjustments to provision, support with routines and transitions, or working with external agencies where appropriate.

We have high expectations for attendance, alongside a strong understanding of the individual needs of our students. Our aim is to help every young person develop the confidence, routines and resilience they need to attend regularly and engage positively with education.

If you are experiencing difficulties with your child’s attendance, please talk to us. We are here to help.

Working together –

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting good attendance. If your child is finding it difficult to attend, please contact us as early as possible so that we can work together to understand what is happening and identify the right support.

Please see our Attendance Policy for further information about our expectations and procedures.
