Art
At The Fermain Academy, Art is a core subject for all students in Year 9 and an option for students in Year 10 and Year 11. This helps to students to find a creative and therapeutic space where they can express themselves, build confidence and develop personal resilience. Many of our students arrive with gaps in their learning or have found traditional classroom approaches challenging, and we provide an inclusive, supportive curriculum that ensures every student can engage, explore and excel.
Art lessons take place in our dedicated Art Studio within The Mill, giving students access to excellent resources and a specialist environment where creativity can flourish. Through practical projects, experimentation and personal expression, students develop technical skills, explore ideas and gain a sense of achievement. Art also supports wider learning by fostering focus, problem solving and perseverance.
We feel that our Art curriculum supports our students in many ways and helps to prepare them for their next steps beyond Fermain. Whether moving on to college, vocational training or employment in the field of creativity/art and design or if it is just to recognise the beauty, talent and style in different art forms and to enjoy how Art can enhance everyday life.
You can find more details about how we structure and deliver our Art curriculum in our Tier 2 Art Curriculum document. Art Tier 2 Curriculum Document
