History
At The Fermain Academy, History is offered as an option subject from Year 10, leading to GCSE qualifications. Our curriculum is designed to engage students with the past, helping them understand how events, people and societies have shaped the world today while developing critical thinking, analysis and communication skills.
Through a combination of classroom study, source analysis and discussion, students explore key periods in history, examining social, political and cultural change. This approach encourages curiosity, reflective thinking and a deeper understanding of how historical events influence the present and future.
History also prepares students for life beyond Fermain by developing skills such as research, evaluation, argument construction and decision-making, supporting progression into further study, vocational pathways or careers that require analytical and reflective thinking.
