Music

At The Fermain Academy, Music is offered as an option subject from Year 10 to Year 11, giving students the chance to develop their musical skills, creativity and understanding through practical and theoretical study in our dedicated Music Studio.

In addition to the GCSE option, Music plays an important role in supporting wellbeing across the school. Some students access Music as an intervention, using practical music-making and creative activities to regulate emotions, build confidence and enhance their overall happiness in school. This supportive approach helps learners engage more fully with other areas of the curriculum and experience success in a safe and creative environment.

Music also helps prepare students for life beyond Fermain by fostering a passion for music and creativity and an understanding of the powerful emotions and feelings that music can inspire. We also support students who wish to take a next step in Music in Post 16 education or apprenticeships.

You can find more details about how we structure and deliver our Music curriculum in our Tier 2 Music Curriculum document. Music Tier 2 Curriculum Document
