Textiles

At The Fermain Academy, Textiles is a core subject in Year 9, with two lessons each week, and an optional subject in Years 10 and 11. Lessons are delivered in The Mill, giving students access to specialist equipment and resources to develop creativity, practical skills and an understanding of materials, processes and design principles. Students learn to plan, create and evaluate textile projects while developing attention to detail, problem-solving and resilience.

In Years 10 and 11, students taking Textiles as an option have the opportunity to further refine their technical skills and creativity, completing more complex projects and exploring design in depth. Lessons also emphasise health and safety, practical techniques and personal expression, preparing learners for further study, vocational training or careers in design and textiles.
