Parent/Carer Consultation and Materials Access

At The Fermain Academy, we are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers in delivering our PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum.

Parents and carers have the right to view and discuss the materials used to teach PSHE/RSE. If you would like to review any resources or find out more about what is taught, please contact the school and we will be happy to arrange this.

In line with statutory guidance, parents and carers have the right to request that their child is withdrawn from some or all of the sex education elements of RSE that are delivered as part of our PSHE curriculum. Requests for withdrawal should be made in writing to the Headteacher and will be discussed with you to ensure you are fully informed about the content and the benefits of receiving this education.

Please note:

  • There is no right to withdraw from Relationships Education or Health Education, as these are statutory.
  • If a pupil is withdrawn, the school will ensure appropriate, purposeful alternative provision is in place.
  • Pupils may choose to opt into sex education themselves from three terms before their 16th birthday.

Further information about our PSHE/RSE provision can be found in our curriculum sequencing document, RSE policy, and PHRSE policy, all of which are available on the school website. A copy of the letter shared with all parents and carers outlining this information is also available to view below.
