The school has been shortlisted for the Tesco Bags of Help community funding project and now we need your help!
There are 3 projects shortlisted and the amount of funding we will get depends on in-store votes over the next 2 weeks (31st October – 13th November). You can vote in the following stores:
- Tesco Superstore – Hibel Road
- Tesco Metro – Exchange St (opposite B&M Bargains in the Town Centre)
You will receive a voucher/token to vote with at the till and all you have to do is drop it in our voting box in the store! You can vote as many tmes as you like too so don’t be afraid to go back! Buying a banana each day will cost you about 18p and will mean you can vote for our project…..not to mention the health benefits!
With the funding, we are looking to develop some outdoor teaching areas that we believe our students will thrive in. We are proposing the addition of a canopy outside our construction classroom which will increase our teaching space and enable us to deliver more trade quality qualifications to our students. The area will mainly be used to teach bricklaying and other ‘wet’ trade skills to our students, in a different environment to that of a normal classroom. We also intend to develop a ‘grow garden’ that our students will take responsibility for planting and maintaining. Should we be successful in securing funding, we will add decking to an area of our playground and install planters to the surrounding grassed area, where students will grow vegetables, fruit and herbs. They will be able to use these items in food and cookery lessons in the future and learn valuable lessons in doing so. We will also add some picnic bench style seating and develop the garden area in to something our students can be proud of. The outdoor areas will be designed by our students and staff and students will also help build and install the new items, building self confidence and team work along the way.
